As a member of Breakthrough T1D’s Philanthropic Engagement team, the National Director supports the implementation and expansion of Planned Giving efforts to increase charitable/estate giving. In their assigned geographic territory, the National Director builds and maintains relationships with prospects and donors and collaborates with field staff and volunteers on planned giving strategy.
This is a remote position. The ideal candidate will live in pacific, mountain or central time zone.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising (75%)
Proactively and strategically builds and manages an assigned planned giving portfolio of active prospects and high-value planned giving donors through all stages of the giving cycle.
Using Breakthrough T1D’s planned giving moves management strategy, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards assigned planned giving prospects through personal contact including phone calls, personalized correspondence and personal visits.
Utilizing Breakthrough T1D’s planned giving lead cultivation strategies, responds to assigned planned giving leads in a timely manner.
Maintains accurate and timely records of activities through proficient use of Salesforce CRM.
Utilizes planned giving software to create gift proposals including charitable gift annuity and charitable trusts proposals.
Participates in donor portfolio reviews and other activities to identify planned giving prospects and support their cultivation through other fundraising programs as assigned.
Assists in the delivery of Beta Society benefits and recognition. Provides personalized stewardship to Beta Society members as assigned.
Maintains knowledge of Breakthrough T1D’s mission and impact and actively shares with donors, prospects, volunteers and others.
Participates in donor events as assigned.
Cultural Leadership (20%)
Supports the implementation of national planned giving strategy by supporting and providing training for chapter staff, volunteers and other colleagues as assigned.
Contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a strong, proactive planned giving strategy.
Manages special assignments to innovate and promote planned giving.
Supports Breakthrough T1D’s volunteer-led planned giving initiatives as assigned.
Adheres to the AFP’s donor bill of rights, CGP/ACGA’s Models of Standard Practice for planned giving fundraising and fundraising best practices.
Administration & Management (5%)
Participates in the administration of the charitable gift annuity program as assigned.
Assists in creating and managing the planned giving budget for assigned area.
Other duties as assigned.
8 years’ experience including 5 years in planned giving fundraising, preferably in matrixed organization(s).
College degree in business related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
History of success in securing six- and seven-figure planned gifts.
Command of planned giving vehicles and strategies.
Proficiency in planned giving software and MS Office Suite.
Ability to effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Demonstrated competency handling diverse assignments.
Team player with the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers.
Ability to successfully develop, maintain, and utilize relationships.
Excellent written, oral, and communication skills. Demonstrated Ability for public speaking and training. Ability to communicate technical information in a simple comprehensible manner.
Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative. Well-disciplined and an extremely resourceful self-starter.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel and occasional weekends.
